10 Years Ago I:
1. was still in my early 20's
2. was working on my BS in elementary education.
3. was working as a substitute teacher.
4. was having so much fun with friends in college.
5. was traveling.
6. drove a navy blue Ford Taurus.

5 things on my "to do" list:
1. Finish organizing my sewing / exercise room
2. Burn all my pictures on to CD
3. Start making all my Christmas gifts
4. Take my sewing machine to the sewing shop for a check-up (I don’t want to part with it, so I have been procrastinating it.)
5. Spend today lounging around with hubby and kids while eating a ton of junk food and watching conference.
5 snacks I enjoy:
1. Popcorn with brown sugar sprinkled on it
2. Fiber one bars
3. Dry Cereal
4. A Diet Cherry Coke from sonic with extra ice (that counts as a snack, doesn’t it?)
5. Red Grapes
5 jobs I've had:
1. Mom / Wife
2. Teacher
3. Bank Teller
4. Secretary for a medical company
5. Disney Store “Cast Member” (puke)
5 places I've lived:
1. Las Vegas
2. Las Vegas
3. Las Vegas
4. Las Vegas
5. Las Vegas
5 things I'd do if I won a million:
1. Say “One-Million Dollars” with my pinky next to my lips just like Dr. Evil.
2. Buy a nice RV and spend the next year traveling with the family .
3. I would say put it in savings, but who knows if it would be there down the road.
4. Find a way to make it pay us an allowance for the rest of our lives.
5. Buy a house that doesn’t have stairs so I don’t have to look at traffic marks every time I walk up.
5 things that made me laugh this week:
1. Steve.
2. Thomas’s horrible knock-knock jokes that make no sense. (Anyone who reads this, PLEASE comment with a knock-knock joke I can teach Thomas. The poor kid needs some material and I can only think of 2! Please don't send any like Grandma Shirley started to teach him...
Knock-knock
Who's there?
Tom
Tom who?
Tom As*
As soon as she said the punchline she realized what she was saying. Sorry, Mom. I had to document the one and only time I have EVER heard you use profanity [even if it was unintentionally] for posterity.)
3. Clara handing me about 20 diaper disposal bags every time I lay her down on her changing table. She thinks it’s a game that we MUST play at every diaper change.
4. My horrible guitar-hero skillz. (I think it was more of an embarrassed laughter)
5. Bonnie Hunt - I love her new show. I think her demographic is intended to be old women, but I think she’s a kick-in-the-pants.

Cheap Labor
I always seemed to get the washing duty. I can still remember standing at the sink, staring at the white brick wall, thinking there was no other reason why my parents had us, other than cheap labor.
I have since figured out that, no, my parents didn’t just have kids so they didn’t have to do the dishes. My brothers and I were probably just as much fun to have around as Thomas and Clara are to Me and Steve. However, Thomas is entering into a new phase, one I am thrilled about. He is now old enough to wash the dishes. This morning, he moved the dining room chair to the kitchen sink and informed me that he needed to get the dishes done (he even said it in a whoa-is-me way, he must have learned that one from me). Did I stop him? NO WAY! I encouraged him! He then asked if I would put his apron on him so his favorite “Chick Magnet” shirt he wears with pride wouldn’t get wet. I quickly went around the kitchen and gathered up any dishes that needed doin’ and he scrubbed them all for me. What a great kid.
Now if I could just teach him how to sort laundry and run a vacuum I would be set.

How Clara gets her way.
"Okay, Mom. I will humor you and let you take a couple pictures of me."
"I will turn on the charm for just one."
"I know I will get my way if I try this method. PLEASE, NO MORE PICTURES!"

Saturday Morning With Thomas
Thursday, September 18, 2008
oh ***#@!&^
This afternoon, we were at Café Rio (my nemesis). I was buckling Thomas into his car seat while he was wearing a balloon tied around his wrist. When I tried getting his arm in, I realized I was going to have to get the string untied - the knot that I made sure I tied super-duper strong so his balloon wouldn’t go flying into the air when we went outside.
Me: Oh, crap! I can’t get this balloon off.
Thomas: Mom, we don’t say crap in this family.
Me: Your right, Thomas. I am sorry, I shouldn‘t have said that.
Thomas: We don’t say crap, stupid, shut-up, or fat.
It was one of those mom moments where I had to bite back the laughter. I love his little list of no-no words he keeps on hand for moments like this. He knows he is not allowed to say these words, and 92.75% of the time he is pretty obedient about it. When he has caught Steve, me, or even Grandma Barb (just once, she's a pretty decent lady) saying one of these choice expressions, he has called us on it with extreme glee. I think he rejoices because he gets to now say the offensive remark without fear of getting reprimanded.
Oh, why can‘t he say fat? A couple of weeks ago I made the mistake of asking him if I looked pretty or fat in my dress for church. He said fat. I made a new rule right then and there; No Saying Fat. He took me seriously, so I am just going to continue letting him think it is a bad word.

My fantasy vacation arrived today.
Look what was in my mailbox today! This was that apron that Sarah made for me. I love it! She is so clever!
My fantasy vacation was to take the kids to Disneyland. I know, not really a fantasy. Let me explain...
I might be sitting on a gold mine.

It's apron time again!
First, I wanted to post all the adorable aprons that I have received and neglected to post and link. These swaps are so much fun. It is so much fun to get these packages in the mail.
This was my first apron I received. Val made it from reading my profile on swap-bot. I mentioned that I love red and yellow and have a thing for polka-dots. This apron has been used many times. I should have washed it before I took a picture...but didn't.
This lovely apron was sent to me by Shawnee. When I saw her name on the outside of the package, I was thrilled. She is one of the "mothers" of the apron swaps. I knew it would be a good one, and it was. I love this it. I like how it fits and makes me look 10 pounds thinner! This is where I would have posted the Fall Apron I made, but you will just have to use your imagination.
I made this apron for the Vintage Apron Swap over at Garboodles. I channeled June Cleaver and created it after seeing one similar to it on the Internet. I love chicken scratch embroidery, so I trimmed the bodice and pockets with the checkerboard pattern. I think this was one of my favorite aprons I have made. I love the way the skirt was full. It really did look like I broke into Beaver's house to steal one from his mom.
This was the apron that was made for me in exchange for the gingham one. I can not even begin to say how much I love this apron. Robin read my blog and saw the little dress I made for Clara and then made me an apron out of matching fabric. I love the pattern, it is an old McCalls 1960 pattern. If you want to see some incredible work, check out her blog and her etsy shop.
This was the final apron I made for this round of swaps. The theme was "What I Wish I Would Have Done On Summer Vacation." The gal I made this for wanted to travel to Greece. I searched the web and found the picture below of one of the Greek Islands. I used it for my inspiration. I really like how it turned out. I even made it out of white sheets, so it has a "toga" effect.

He is so perceptive!
